The PET bottle manufacturing process involves two basic stages of ‘Preforms Manufacturing’ and ‘Bottle Blow Molding’.

Injection Blow Molding – Preforms

The production starts with injecting PET plastic into a heated barrel. The later step injects it into a water-cooled mold under high pressure to form a preform. A preform is an intermediate product. It blows subsequently into a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) container.

Preforms vary in barriers, neck finish, weight, shape, and colour as per the product’s requirement. The higher injection pressure fixes the mold together using a clamping device. When the plastic remains inside the mold, it freezes into the mold’s shape. After sufficient cooling of the plastic, the mold and clamping unit open to eject the completed assembly from the mold. The process repeats further.

Two-Stage Reheat and Blow

This process precisely reheats the preform in the machine. The perform stretches down through the neck finish opening with a core rod. Afterward, it blows into the desired bottle shape.

Injection Stretch Blow Molding

This process manufactures high-quality bottles with very high clarity. It melts the plastic and then injects it into a mold to form a preform. The process requires reheating the preform before holding it inside two halves of a mold. The process involves high-pressure air to inflate the preform in the mold while the preform stretches simultaneously. The plastic freezes off to the mold shape while being inside of the mold. The mold halves are later open to release the bottle and repeat the process.

This process combines preform injection molding and the stretching and blowing of the preform into a bottle on one machine. The preform blows into a bottle under latent heat from the injection process along with additional conditioning. This single-stage process develops blemish-free, customizable bottles in a compact and flexible footprint. It allows more control over preform handling and is suitable for low volume production, and small-sized bottle containers. The injection molding production speed offers an automated high-efficiency operation.
